Værøy

The small island Værøy located in the Northern Norway where I spent two days and nights during September in 2022. We were sleeping by the beach with the most calming and relaxing sound of the sea, strong wind and pouring rain. Then we ascended two peaks, one of them the highest of the island, named Nordlandsnupen, and had a wonderful time there. Although this island is not so large, we did not have a chance to see everything only by our feet/paws though. Especially the opposite -as the crow flies- farther part of the island; in its unique way, while it is no more home for anyone; only for coastline colonies of seabirds. The most popular are puffins, mentioned not only as a tourist safari tour attraction but also as a symbol of the municipality. Back at the time, the main resource of food for inhabitants was hunting them with a help from the rare local dog-lundehund- called puffin dog. What is fascinating about this fact that these dogs have paws with five pads instead of four as is common. I look forward to having a possibility to get farther next time by bike. What is also popular to visitors of this island is a trip by boat. That is the only way how to reach a sandy beach with caves having the signs in it, that were engraved 3000 years ago. So there is definitely still a lot wishing to visit, to see, to feel and to meet.
